No one cares how long you've been failing

I'm going to be honest here: No one cares how long you've been failing. I'm not concerned if you've got a problem that's been bothering you for two seconds, and I'm certainly not bothered if it's something you've spent weeks trying to sort out.

To be perfectly candid: I don't give a fuck about your time.

Behold! The field in which I grow my fucks. Lay thine eyes upon it and thou shalt see that it is barren.

Now don't get me wrong, I care that there's a problem. I just don't care how long you've had it. Nothing good comes from telling people how long you've had the problem.

Please answer this question, if anyone can help me.. Its really urgent. In 3 hours, i have a presentation on lucene and i have this serious question still unanswered….

Good for you, I don't care. It just shows that you're irresponsible and didn't plan correctly. You have not given me any additional information with which I could help solve your problem. Instead, you've now wasted my time.

Back button not working in chrome…Tried tons for weeks!

I have been working on this for weeks now and am trying to figure out a way to get this to work.

I am looking for weeks since now pretty much

I am trying this for weeks.Hope some one will help me.

Oh really? You've spent hours scouring google for the answer to your trivial question? You've spent days carefully crafting different test scenarios and continuously coming back with failures? "Weeks" means that it's more than one week, and one week is forty hours. At a minimum you're stating that you've wasted over eighty hours on something petty, which tells me that you're being paid too much for whatever it is you're failing to do.

Time Spent vs How Important it is to You
Little Time Spent Lots of Time Spent
Not Very Important to You Well, it's not important to me either, so why waste my time if you're not willing to invest your own? If you didn't care, then why have you spent "weeks" of time (over eighty hours) messing around with it?
Very Important to You It clearly must be important when you're not even willing to spend five minutes looking for an answer. If you care so much, why the hell didn't you ask for help sooner? If it's that important, spend some money to hire a contractor.

You see, if you tell me how long you've spent on problems that I already know the answer to, I'll end up wasting my time judging you as an incompetent buffoon, and will be distracted from actually solving the problem. That time you've wasted is gone, you won't get it back. Telling me makes it seem as though you feel your time is more valuable than mine. If I'm the one who knows how to solve your problem, then you should treat my time with respect, as it's worth more to you than the "weeks" of time that you've already wasted.

If, instead, you show that you understand you need help, and do your best to provide me with enough information that I can actually lend a hand, I'll be more than happy to lend a hand. I'll give you information free of charge. I'll point you in the right direction, and send you resources such as where to find more good information. Telling me how long you've been failing for is not important to solving the problem, so don't waste my time with useless information that I then have to forget.
